Itinerary

At 08:00 AM we leave Quito and after driving south for 1 and a half hours on the Pan-American highway we reach the park entrance of Cotopaxi National Park. We drive through pine forest and soon reach the Visitors’ Antisana, standing at 5,705 meters (18,700 feet), is Ecuador's fourth-highest volcano and among its most breathtaking. Its vast páramo landscapes are home to unique endemic plants and endangered wildlife, including the majestic Andean condor, Ecuador’s national emblem.

Our adventure begins early with an 8:00 AM departure from Quito. After a scenic 45-minute drive east by jeep, we arrive at the town of Pintag. From here, we enter the protected area and continue for about an hour through the expansive plains of this magnificent volcano, reaching an altitude of 4,000 meters (13,000 feet) at La Mica Lake. The lake offers stunning views and serene surroundings, perfect for soaking in the natural beauty.

At La Mica, we start our exhilarating bike ride back to Pintag, covering approximately 30 kilometers (18.6 miles). The first 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) are relatively flat, leading to a gradual ascent over the next 2 kilometers (1.3 miles) as we reach the highest point of the pass.

From the pass, a thrilling downhill ride awaits, taking us through diverse landscapes until we reach the park entrance, where the biking portion concludes.

Along the way, we’ll enjoy a hearty box lunch amidst the stunning scenery. The route offers a mix of downhill stretches, flat sections, and a few uphill challenges. A 4x4 support vehicle will accompany us throughout the journey, allowing you the flexibility to hop in and out as needed.
