Itinerary
This one-day adventure is perfect for nature and cycling enthusiasts, beginning on the slopes of the active Guagua Pichincha Volcano and descending into the lush Cloud Forest of Mindo.
As we pass through a northern neighborhood of Quito, you’ll never imagine the incredible journey that lies ahead!
We start by driving along the charming old road that connects Quito to the Pacific Ocean coast. The drive takes us to the highest point of the trip, at 3,200 meters (10,500 feet) above sea level, where we transition to bicycles. From here, the adventure begins as you descend 10 kilometers (6 miles) on a peaceful, paved road surrounded by Andean flora, arriving at the picturesque village of Nono, located at 2,900 meters (9,500 feet) above sea level.
The ride continues on a scenic dirt road, stretching 26 kilometers (16 miles) to Tandayapa, at 1,800 meters (5,900 feet) above sea level. Along the way, the lush cloud forest envelops you with its vibrant bromeliads, towering palm trees, and delicate orchids. A mountain stream flows alongside the road, its soothing sounds complemented by small, enchanting waterfalls. You’ll find yourself stopping frequently to capture photos of flowers you’ve never seen before.
Keep an eye on the road and another on the sky—you might spot parrots, toucans, hummingbirds, and caciques. At the end of the dirt road, we’ll visit a hummingbird sanctuary, where you can experience the magic of feeding hummingbirds directly from your hand!
After a delicious lunch, we’ll continue riding toward Mindo, a world-famous destination known for its incredible biodiversity. In Mindo, you’ll have the opportunity to visit a butterfly farm and immerse yourself in the region’s natural wonders.
As the afternoon comes to a close, we’ll return to Quito. Alternatively, you can choose to stay overnight in Mindo to explore further at your own pace.
