The soul behind
the company

Dutchman Adventure Ecuador is the evolution of the pioneering Biking Dutchman, the first mountain biking tourism company in Ecuador—and likely Latin America—founded in 1990 by Jan, a Dutch adventurer, and his wife Ana. Their passion for biking as a way to explore the world established them as the pioneers of cycling tourism in the region.
After more than 30 years of remarkable leadership, Jan and Ana passed the torch to Dutch entrepreneur Eric van Maasdijk, his wife Maricarmen, and her son Mateo. Eric, who grew up in Ecuador and shares a deep connection with its culture and landscapes, first encountered Biking Dutchman in 1995, embarking on numerous adventures with the company over the years. With Maricarmen’s unwavering support and Mateo’s expertise in tourism, this transition was a natural fit.
While cycling remains at the heart of what we do, our vision has grown to encompass the incredible diversity Ecuador offers. Today, Dutchman Adventure Ecuador curates’ unique trips that showcase the country’s unmatched beauty and cultural richness, all while maintaining the same thrilling experiences and exceptional service travelers have come to love.
“Our team is passionate about creating unforgettable journeys that highlight Ecuador’s best. Together, we’re building on a legacy of excellence while crafting new adventures that will inspire memories for a lifetime.”
— Eric van Maasdijk
